The Bedford County Development Association is making plans to add a new building to the Bedford County Business Park.

The county commissioners and folks from the BCDA reached a cooperation agreement on the project on Tuesday.

The President of BCDA, Bette Slayton, said the construction will cost about $1M, and the association is starting to apply for state funding.

“In economic development, we’re always planning for the future. We’re always looking at what is the customer going to want, and this is our planning: to be able to have what the customer wants when the customer wants it,” Slayton said

She said the first two facilities they built in the business park are great examples of providing space for potential businesses.

“Additionally, there’s a market void of 10,000 square feet facility for manufacturing-warehousing types of facilities, so we’re in the early stages of looking at what the spec building should be used for: another office building or possibly a distribution manufacturing spec building.”

We’re told the BCDA hopes the construction starts within the next year.
