PENN, Pa. (AP) — A man who helped operate a now closed day care center at his Pennsylvania home is accused of sexually assaulting several young children who attended the center.

State Police say James Anthony Battista faces numerous counts, including child rape, aggravated indecent assault and child endangerment. It wasn’t known if the 64-year-old Delaware County man has retained an attorney.

Authorities started investigating Battista last June, when they were told he had allegedly assaulted a 3-year-old child while operating the Little Friends Daycare in Penn Township with his wife. They later determined that he also sexually assaulted three other children there who ranged from 3 to 7 years old.

The alleged assaults occurred between 2006 and 2009. The day care was eventually closed when Battista moved to Delaware County in 2010.

Battista’s wife doesn’t face any charges.
