An area church is starting a new mission in the community. Members of the 2nd Avenue United Methodist Church in Altoona are planning to hold their first food bank this coming Friday, January 18.

Pastor Brian Sandell says, “We’re doing a food bank because we take really seriously the call to feed those who are hungry.”

The first open pantry will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the church.

Pastor Sandell says the effort is geared toward Altoona residents, but all in need are welcome.
You must bring a photo ID, a piece of mail with a correct address, and a birth certificate or photo ID for each child in the household for which you are registering.

“We just want them to know that Second Avenue Church loves them, loves Jesus and if they’re in need of food this winter or anytime of the year, we’re here to help,” Pastor Sandell says.
