Read Across America week celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2
So all week long, schools bring together children, books, and the community.
Today, our Amanda Kenney got to read a number of books to some first grade students at the Young Scholars of Central PA Charter School in State College.
The kids told her that reading is fun because it can take you places.
“Sometimes they have adventures in it, sometimes they’re magical, sometimes they have powers in them…I just like that,” said first-grader Kennedy Calhoun.
“Literacy, I believe is the key to success and the future,” said First Grade Teacher Natalie Wortman. “It’s the key to preventing poverty, I believe.”
Their teacher there, Wortman has really empowered the students through reading.
When she finished reading, each kid told her about their favorite book.
