An Altoona Police officer was getting paid overtime to gamble at a casino and that’s not all.
State Police began an investigation into Sergeant Matthew Starr in February after Altoona Police Chief Janice Freehling had some concerns about checks designed for her department.
Starr now faces 10 felony charges. Investigators say Starr carried out a several different scams over a five year period.
He is accused of trying to sell equipment that belonged to the city on Facebook. Investigators say he also stole money from a Go Fund Me Page, spending some of that money at Rocky Gap Casino.
Starr is also accused of setting up a fake tactical equipment company.
He was arrested on Tuesday and unable to post bail. He remains in the Blair County Prison.
