Hope is spending her Tuesday afternoon at the mall play area.
“I love this playground,” she told us. “It’s my favorite.”
Her laugh, energy and infectious smile would never make you think the 5-year-old is fighting a difficult diagnosis.
“It’s because of my kidney reflex,” Hope explained.
Hope was born with a pelvic kidney and kidney reflex. It’s an every day struggle. Something her mom, Patty Settle, has to worry about getting worse over time.
“She can’t have a whole lot of sugar or salt,” Patty said. “That affects your kidneys.”
March is kidney awareness month and at a young age, Hope has a big plan. She wants to let people know about kidney disease.
“Spread it out to everybody,” Hope smiled.
She even created a GoFundMe page to raise money to donate to the National Kidney Foundation. Her goal right now is $250.
“A lot of people don’t know and that’s the problem,” Patty told us. “That’s why she wants everyone to know.”
Hope will be busy this month handing out little items that represent kidney awareness month.
“Pins, pens, tattoos, and footballs,” she exclaimed.
She’s spreading the word, while hoping for a cure.
