ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Students at Penn State Altoona are bringing the farm to campus.

Folks got the chance to explore different aspects of agriculture during Thursday’s 16th Annual Agriculture Awareness Day on campus.

“Exposing everybody to this give people a better feel for as to where their food comes from, how things are produced and what the agriculture community is really about,” Penn State Altoona freshman Blair Miller said.

The day was complete with a mechanical bull, petting zoo, and student projects explaining the different aspects of the food and agriculture industry.

“With less than two percent of the population involved in production agriculture, it’s important for the students to realize that, so this is a great opportunity for them to showcase agriculture, teach the public about what agriculture’s all about and where their food comes from,” Professor of Agriculture Gail Good said.

Students created projects that explained food science subjects, such as the farm to table process of cow’s milk and beer brewing.

Students wanted their classmates and community members to understand everything that goes into their food.

“Especially here in Blair County, FFA and agriculture are huge all over the county, and there’s a lot of people that are involved,” Miller said.

Good said bringing animals to campus, having people explain how their cared for, as well as show younger generations how important agriculture is to the community is a great opportunity for everyone to learn.
