ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A lot has changed at Lakemont Park since it was last open two summers ago, and Melissa Vyborny, the general manager at the park, said their goal is to make Lakemont the new community park, filling a void they saw in the community.

“The ability to make it some place that everybody could come was really important to us, and so, the things we did were things that we really didn’t have here or that we needed, so I think it’s worked out pretty well. We’re looking forward to a good summer with all of this,” she said.

The new basketball and sand volleyball courts are on a first come, first serve basis. Folks should call the front office if they want to save one for a special event.

“For games, leagues, tournaments, just for family, if you’re having a picnic here, you can reserve them as well,” Vyborny explained.

Along with the new courts and attractions like the mini golf courses, batting cages, and improved amusement rides, you’ll see the new United Way walking path and natural playground for a relaxed outing with the family.

“It wasn’t like a to do something grand with swing sets and that kind of thing. It was just different things that kids could climb on and play with,” Vyborny said.
