ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A local church is ramping up its activities for the public this summer. On Monday, June 3, the African Children’s Choir will give a free concert in at the Second Avenue United Methodist Church in Altoona.

The boys and girls  from Uganda range in age from six to ten years old. They’ll sing hymns, as well as more contemporary music, and selections from their culture.

“I expect people to be uplifted. I expect people to be encouraged and I expect people to really have a sense of fellowship and unity with one another and brothers and sisters clear across the world,” said Pastor Brian Seidell.

The church is also offering Rise-Up sports and theater camps for children from June 24-28. The cost is $10 for one camp, $15 for two. Limited transportation and scholarships are available. The sports camp will take place at the Second Avenue church, and the theater camp will be held at Champion Life Church in Altoona.

According to Pastor Seidell, sports camp will emphasize teamwork and skill development.  It will also include games and competitions.

At theater camp, kids will learn to sing, dance, and act.  Then, they’ll perform “the Enchanted Sleeping Beauty.”
