CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — For over half the precincts in Centre County, including all of State College, this is not just a primary, but also a special election where all voters in the 12th Congressional District, including registered Independents, can vote.

The candidates on the ballot for Congress are Democrat Marc Friedenberg and Republican Fred Keller.

Friedenberg, who’s from State College, teaches cyber-law and cyber security at Penn State. Before that, he says he worked in New York as a lawyer where he sued Wall Street banks for what’s commonly called “The financial crisis of 2008.”

His opponent, Fred Keller, from Kreamer, in Snyder County, has served as a representative in the state house since 2010. Before that, he worked as a plant manager for a furniture company in Snyder County.

In the state legislature, Keller says he’s always passed timely and balanced budgets without tax increases or borrowing from the general fund.
