A Christmas tradition of 40 years will make it’s final appearance this weekend in State College.
Tony Lentz has performed his one-man-show of “A Christmas Carol” every holiday season.
The two hour show features Lentz reading the Christmas classic with animated voices and faces for the characters.
Lentz is a Penn State alum, who went on to teach Oral Reading for 30 years at the University.
The first time he performed “A Christmas Carol” was in 1978 and he said it’s been a fulfilling experience for the last four decades.
“I feel blessed that I’ve been able to do it for 40 years. There’s always been the paranoia that my voice would give out, I wouldn’t have the energy to do it….I do Scrooge, over my glasses, Bah! Humbug! And nephew Fred is up and glad and talking and more animated!” Lentz said as he explained how he brings the story to life.
Performances at the Schlow Library were always free but encouraged donations to help build support.
Lentz’s final show will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Park Forest Avenue.
