$2 million awared to Centre Co. to replace bridges

Two Centre County bridges are getting closer to being replaced, thanks to a $2 million grant.

The state grant was awarded by State Representative Scott Conklin, who said that the grant will assist Howard and Bellefonte boroughs with replacing bridges in the county that are structurally deficient, Mill Street Bridge and Railroad Street Bridge.

“This grant represents a wise investment in our local communities,” said Conklin. “The dollars aid our boroughs, townships and counties across the state in maintaining our roadways and infrastructure so that our residents, businesses, and our regions as a whole safely grow and thrive.”

The grant was awarded through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which was created by Act 89 of 2013.

Program eligibility and project selections were made according to several factors, including safety benefits, technical and financial feasibility, energy efficiency, regional economic conditions, job creation, and operational sustainability.
