An exhibition of photos from the 1977 Johnstown flood kicks off Friday evening, June 16th.

Around 30 photographs are on display at the Heritage Discovery Center in Johnstown. During the exhibition’s opening, the photographer, George Kollar, will speak about his work.

The Johnstown Area Heritage Association curator said they wanted to open the exhibit to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the flood, which is on July 20th.

“TNot only to tell those stories and George’s stories, but hopefully to spark others to want to look at their own photo albums or talk to their children and share those stories,” said Kaytlin Sumner, the JAHA curator.

The exhibition opening runs from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, June 16th.

The exhibit will remain open this summer.
