PORT MATILDA, CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — On Friday, Centre Colunteers in Medicine made sure that all local children get the vision and dental care they deserve.
The 16th annual “Give Kids a Smile and Vision for the Future” event kicked off at the Pediatric Dental Care offices in Port Matilda.
Up to 100 kids between ages 1 and 18 were given free professional dental care and vision screenings, even if they are uninsured.
One of the dentists who’s been doing this program since the beginning says it’s important to make sure everyone has access to this kind of care.
“This reaches a segment of the population that’s otherwise without help in a lot of cases.” Says pediatric dentist Bob kilareski. “Maybe make a little bit too much to have state assistance, but don’t qualify for any other insurance program. So it’s oftentimes folks that fall through the cracks.”
Each child was given a goodie bag filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, sunglasses and educational information.
