Tuesday at 8 a.m. kicks off Centre Gives, Centre Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
It’s a total of 36 hours to donate to a local non-profit in Centre County.
The online giving event features 147 charitable groups–big and small.
Molly Kunkel, Executive Director of Centre Foundation, said each group has a good cause but they all focus on something different.
“So any donor with any passion, whether its animals, or the environment, or health and human services, or the arts, whatever you have a passion for, you can support through Centre Gives,” Kunkel said.
Every group went through training to learn how best market themselves and prepare for the big event.
Kunkel said each one makes a positive impact in the community.
For St. John’s United Church of Christ in Boalsburg, it’s all about helping the people.
It’s raising money for the Out of the Cold program, which provides shelter for the homeless in the winter.
Monica Ouellette, Pastor at the church, said it helps a lot of people in the county.
“It is the only emergency shelter with no programming, and there are no requirements to get into Out of the Cold,” Ouellette said.
Money raised from Centre Gives helps transportation costs for guests, cots and cleaning supplies.
The shelter runs from mid-October to the beginning of May.
And even though its their off-season Ouellette said the need is relevant year-round.
“We’re always making preparations for how we can serve our guests best for the next season, it never ends.” Ouellette said.
Centre Gives wraps up at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
