Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’  one of the most remarkable moments in aviation history.

Shortly after taking off from Laguardia Airport, US Airways Flight 1549 hit a flock of geese and lost power in both engines.

Captain Chesley Sullenberger glided to an emergency landing in the river.

Jeff kolodjay returned to the New York City pier where he was brought after being rescued for the first time today, reflecting back on the moment history was made, and his life was saved.

“I thought we were going to impact a building…still remember just standing up. And the plane had already filled with water, and I remember thinking oh my god, this water feels so good. I’m alive,” says Kolodjay.

Sullenberger was called a hero, for saving all 150 passengers, and 5 crew members.

Since the incident on Flight 1549, the government has killed thousands of Canada Geese near the New York airports to head off future bird strikes.
