While funding is tight for fire companies across the commonwealth, one in our region is getting a big check.

Monday, Sunoco Pipeline presented the Markelsburg fire company with $40,000.

The money will go towards a new generator.

The new generator will make life a bit easier and safer for the firefighters when they lose power.

When we lose power now we go to pull the emergency releases, stand on the step ladder and use a broom handle to hold the latches up so they don’t dig into the top of the trucks as the trucks move out,” said Fire Chief Marlin Hunsicker.

Sunoco says it puts money aside every year to help first responders and communities in the path of their pipeline.
