Over a million acres of land in the Midwest have been scorched after massive wildfires burned out of control across several states.

The tragedy hit close to home for a Centre County woman, who is asking for community support to help the victims.

Julie Smith owns E&L Supplies in Spring Mills. She said watching the devastation unfold in parts of Texas, Kansas, Colorado and Oklahoma was heartbreaking. Many of the fire victims are farmers, who lost everything, including their cattle and other animals.

Smith’s family is heavily involved in the agriculture community in Centre County and knows this type of tragedy could happen anywhere. That’s why Smith wants to see their community help neighbors in need.

“This is going to be a big impact in our country that we’ve got to help our neighbors rebuild. I say our neighbors and they’re really not a mile down the road and they’re not next door, but they’re really, I guess to me, they’re a neighbor with being in the farming community,” she said.

Smith is asking for monetary donations to send to victims to help with feed for the cattle who survived and veterinary supplies for the cattle injured.
