A local effort to reduce impaired driving earned the 2016 Highway Traffic Safety Award.

The Blair County DUI Task Force and Blair County Drug and Alcohol Partnership, Inc. were recipients of the award.  Task force officers met with other task forces at a statewide conference to share information and methods of reducing the number of DUI’s in their areas.

One method of note is the billboard campaign in Blair County that reminds drivers to never get behind the wheel when impaired.

“It’s, again, all as a result of the work and relationship we have with our partnerships,” said Duncansville Police Chief James Ott. “Blair County Drug and Alcohol, we couldn’t do it without them.”

All were humbled to be recognized for their efforts, but they said there is always more work to be done in keeping impaired drivers off our roads.
