Local businessman conflicted on Trump

Local businessman said Donald Trump is the best bet for his company but questioned his character.

George Sidney, President and COO for McLanahan Corporation, said his line of work will be affected by this year’s presidential election.

The company was founded in Hollidaysburg in 1835.

It manufactures equipment globally for industries including coal and agriculture.

Sidney said his vote in November will inevitably impact the corporation.

“I have to vote for what’s going to keep our company going,” Sidney said.

He said his first impression of Donald Trump wasn’t the best, and said his presence on stage parallels to a “circus routine.”

“I’ll be honest with you you know, I didn’t like the guy,” Sidney said, “but i knew I was going to vote for him because the alternative was not going to support our industry.”

He said neither Hillary Clinton or Trump will make or break the company.

“But whether we flourish in the next four years will be determined by who goes into the White House,” Sidney said.

Sidney has attended Trump’s rallys, and he spoke at one held in Altoona.

He said he had an opportunity to meet with the GOP candidate in private and he was able to see a different side of him.

“I can tell you in that hour and a half that I had with him one-on-one I’m telling you, he wasn’t anything like that. He actually understood business,” Sidney said.
