Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Program is taking a step forward, as the state’s health department released a list of regions and counties, where medical marijuana dispensaries will be located.
State Health Secretary Karen Murphy said Pennsylvania has reached an important milestone in the implementation of the program.
The health department has divided Pennsylvania into six medical marijuana regions. In the first phase of the program, permits will be issued for 27 dispensaries, with up to twelve growers and processors.
Blair and Centre Counties are slated to receive a permit for a dispensary in that first phase.
Murphy said the department is in the final stages of preparing permit applications, which will go online January 17.
Applications will be accepted between February 20 and March 20.
The medical marijuana program became effective on May 17, 2015 and the health department says it’s expected to be fully implemented by 2018.
