Some Blair County residents filed a lawsuit against the county’s reassessment.
Members of the Blair County Citizens for Accurate Reassessment said the county commissioners and chief assessor ignored serious flaws in calculating the new property taxes.
The suit alleges that commissioners used speculative valuations to give homeowners unfair evaluations that raised taxes as high as 500 percent in some cases. The suit also alleges that appraisals produced by licensed professionals were routinely ignored in the appeals process.
The group BCCAR is asking the Blair County Court of Common Pleas to vacate the certification of the reassessment signed by the Chief Assessor Deanna Heichel.
