The landfill worker trapped under several feet of disposal has been found dead.
State Police say William L. Pierce, 49, of DuBois was pronounced dead after being found in compactor around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
A landfill collapse on Wednesday trapped Pierce 40 feet underground.
It happened at the Greentree Landfill in Fox Township, Elk County.
In the overnight hours, radar equipment detected a large piece of machinery about the same size as the compactor.
Authorities say the preliminary cause of death is accidental/blunt force trauma. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
The landfill is owned by Advanced Disposal.
