Key meeting set in hospital contract negotiations

A meeting on Monday could be key to resolving a contract dispute between a local hospital and its registered nurses. The contract for more than 800 RNs  at UPMC Altoona expires at the end of the year.

SEIU Healthcare says nurses rejected the hospital’s last contract offer on Tuesday, and voted to send a 10 day strike notice if a tentative agreement isn’t reached by the deadline.

The union says staffing and nurses healthcare costs are major sticking points. The union local president is hopeful Monday’s negotiations go well and that talks will continue. Paula Stellabotte says she and her fellow nurses aren’t anxious to strike.
