Kathleen Kane made a surprise announcement on Tuesday. Pennsylvania’s embattled Attorney General says she will not seek another term in office.

Kathleen Kane’s legal license was suspended after she was charged with perjury, obstruction and other counts last Fall.

Prosecutors say Kane lied about leaking Grand Jury documents to a newspaper in an attempt to embarrass her political opponents.

Kane has maintained her innocence and said Tuesday she loves serving the people of Pennsylvania, but first and foremost, she is a mother.

“You have to think about your family. You just have to. I always said I had to make sure my house wasn’t imploding as I was out traveling across this great big commonwealth, and it didn’t thankfully,” Kane said on Tuesday.

Kane is the first female Attorney General ever elected in Pennsylvania. During her 2012 campaign she vowed to break up the state’s “good ole boys network” and to clean up corruption.
