The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting a flood plain study as part of a $250,000 federal grant. They’re looking at structural and environmental factors, as well as the city’s flood mitigation plan.

Contractors for Vision 2025 said they’re looking forward to collaborating with other organizations to improver the city. They said improving the river walls could help Johnstown in many ways.

“River issues are very much connected to economic development. Very much connected to environmental improvements and environmental investments. And very much connected to a healthy population,” said Ryan Kieta, a Vision 2025 Consultant.

Thursday’s forum is not public. However, a public informational session will take place on March 15th at 5:30 p.m. at the JAHA Hertiage Discover Center to talk about river issues and the city’s next steps.
