Johnstown police dogs get new vests

The Johnstown Police Department was contacted by a non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K9’s, saying that someone wanted to donate vests to the department’s police dogs.

In total, the new vests cost about $10,000.

While the police dogs had vests before, these new vests are not as heavy and provide better protection. The vests were specifically measured to fit each dog, so they can stay safe in the field.

The police officers said they’re grateful to the community for wanting to keep their four-legged partners safe too.

“Having a K9 out with us is like having a partner. Every time you’re on the street, you have somebody with you. Somebody that will put their life on the line to protect you and we want to do everything we can to protect them,” said Beau Gardner, a patrolman with the Johnstown Police Department.

The officers said the police dogs are always excited to go out in the field and protect people in the county. Now, the police officers are happy their partners will be protected too.
