Johnstown Police Chief Craig Foust has been placed on paid leave as of Thursday, October 6.
WTAJ is told this is in relation to the police officer that overdosed back in September.
“Officer William Slisz was found by another officer in the roll call room inside Johnstown Police Department. EMS was called. Narcan was administered. He was taken to the hospital,” district attorney Kelly Callihan says.
Callihan says next to the unconscious officer there was a hammer and hole in the wall. They believe he was trying to get into the evidence room.
“The Pennsylvania State Police are conducting an investigation into the officer’s conduct on September 18, 2016 and the circumstances surrounding the overdose, and on my request a full and complete audit of the evidence room at the Johnstown Police Department.”
Callihan goes on to say that Chief Foust was placed on administrative leave.
“The chief was notified and had knowledge of a possible breach in security of the evidence room as far back as July. The chief did not advise me in any way that a problem was detected.”
Officials say due to the officer’s actions cases could be affected. She asks anyone who is facing charges to contact their attorney.
