At J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, Gail Young is in her third year of helping residents enroll in health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.

The certified application counselor says people  have fewer choices this year.

In Huntingdon County, 2 companies  have stopped offering plans, leaving 8 plans from UPMC and 2 from Geisinger Health System.

Young’s encouraged that the premium for most popular plan in her county is “only” up 17 percent.

The plans available to residents differ from county to county across the state. For example, Blair County has 24 plans and Bedford County, 23, most of them offered by UPMC Health Plan. Centre County residents can chose from among 12 plans.

Young encourages residents to go on the healthcare.gov web site and check out the plans offered in the region.
