A local animal shelter is getting a big boost for its efforts to help homeless and neglected pets. It’s all with the help of a grant from PETCO.
The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society said that without this grant, their goal to spay and neuter all of their shelter pets would not have been possible.
The $40,000 donation from the PETCO Foundation will cover about nine months of spaying and neutering at the humane society. The procedures cost about $90 for dogs and $65 for cats. Since the shelter sees almost 1,500 animals come through every year, that cost adds up quickly.
They said this will help them make shelter animals more adoptable and will also reduce the future number of abandoned and neglected pets in our community.
“It’s part of our mission and our vision is to have healthy, adoptable pets ready for the next person coming through our door,” said Lisa Boland, the Central PA Humane Society’s Director of Business and Finance. “So having them already spayed or neutered is just an incentive to be able to have that adopt or take them home.”
The humane society houses animals until they’re adopted or taken care of in a foster home or animal rescue. They said this money will help them get our four-legged friends into their fur-ever homes faster.
