An organization that represents more than 200 healthcare facilities in Pennsylvania is expressing concern about the new American Healthcare Act. The Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) released a statement on Tuesday saying that the plan to replace the Affordable Care Act will not  provide comparable health care.

HAP said the significant Medicaid changes in the new plan will negatively affect  Pennsylvania  and jeopardize coverage for the 700,000 people who gained it and others who are eligible.

President and CEO Andy Carter said, “The financial burden that is seemingly being shifted to low-income individuals, many of whom are working, jeopardizes the important progress we have made to provide these individuals with the right care, in the right place, in the right time.”

Carter also indicated that the new policies aimed at paying for the coverage  don’t match the support currently provided.

The organization estimates that the Medicaid expansion in Pennsylvania brought $1.5 billion in federal funding to the state to cover people who became eligible for the coverage.
