Tuesday, March 7th marked two years since the Martha & Mary House accepted its first guest.
An open house was held at the Martha & Mary House on Bedford Street in Johnstown, to mark the occasion.
About 60 people attended to tour the shelter and learn more about how they can help homeless people in Cambria County.
Past residents even spoke about their success stories and how they’ve been doing since they left the shelter.
The director of the shelter, Danielle Bowers, said she’s proud to be a part of all that the Martha & Mary House does to help people in need.
“I’ve seen so many people come in here and be able to rebuild their lives, get hope and succeed. So to be able to be part of this and to show this to the community is a huge step for the Martha & Mary House,” Bowers said.
The Martha & Mary House is planning a “poverty simulation” in mid-November, in honor of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. They hope it will teach the community about the challenges facing people who struggle with hunger and poverty.
