This weekend a group of loeb fellows from Harvard University will be in Johnstown to address revitalizing options for the city’s floodwalls.
They plan to discuss what has worked and what hasn’t worked in other cities.
Folks with Vision 2025 that are leading this project say the riverwalls aren’t attractive, they’re not environmentally friendly, and they’re cutting Johnstown off from its river.
Friday morning they were out on the Stonycreek river to look at the riverwalls close up.
This is a project that could take more than 15 years, because they have to study the walls, design a plan, and then start construction.
The Harvard team is made up of planners, designers, architects, and landscape architects, which will allow them to bring different ideas forward on how to help update the riverwalls and they say help bring the city into the 21st century.
“You have experts in parks and recreation, so where does the recreational life come into this, but also you know protecting the natural foliage that’s there,” Lawshawn Hoffman, a loeb fellow from Harvard, says.
