Lack of communication and last minute notices has some gym members bent out of shape, and left wondering why the owner was so quick to close up shop.

Tracey Hostler said she’s been a member of Snap Fitness in Duncansville for about 9 months.

Last Wednesday she she said she was there for a workout and watched trainers sign up new members.

She said everything appeared to be normal.

Later that night she said she got an email stating the gym would be closed for the next two days to move gym equipment.

A couple days later, she stopped by for a workout, only to find doors locked, and a sign saying the location was shut down.

“Other than two tvs and some hand weights and some balls, the gym was completely cleaned out of all equipment,” Hostler said.

It wasn’t until Sunday that she said she received a new email saying the fitness center was officially closed.

“The first thing I thought was blame the trainers they didn’t tell us when we were out Wednesday night,” Hostler said.

Tim Kramer, former trainer and manager,  said at the time he had no idea a closure was in the works.

“I found out through a text message Thursday night…I know that I did not intentionally sell any memberships knowing that the gym would be closing…And I’m just as upset as like the members are,” Kramer said.

The handwritten notice on the Duncansville gym doors suggests members go to the Altoona location.

Gym-goers there say an email surfaced saying that branch will close at the end of the month.

Esteban Acosta, a current gym member, said he heard moments before speaking with WTAJ.

“I just heard about it like ten minutes ago, and well I was very confused because I wasn’t informed, there are no flyers out there or anything about it,” Acosta said.

He said this is a time when customer service is needed most but there’s no staff or management in the gym.

“They need a person present at all times and they don’t have that,” Acosta said.

WTAJ reached out to Snap Fitness Corporate Headquarters about the sudden notices and lack of communication.

The office released a statement which read, “This is a rare occurrence, but we are taking swift corrective measures to ensure that members are notified and taken care of.”

During a phone conversation, they told said anyone with concerns should also call the store owner.

Hostler said for her that has been a lost cause.

“The owner won’t return your phone calls…It’s full you can’t even leave a message anymore because the number is full,” Hostler said.

Hostler added that she doesn’t believe this is a corporate problem.

WTAJ has tried to reach out to the owner, but we have not received a call back.
