In the wake of the shooting in Orlando, a nationwide gun debate is gaining attention in the Senate.

On Wednesday, Connecticut senator Chris Murphy stood on the Senate floor for nearly 15 hours pushing for a vote on two amendments.

The first would stop people on the no-fly list and the FBI’s terror watch list from buying guns.

The second would expand background checks to include sales on the internet and at gun shows.

However, many republican senators, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, disagree with the legislation.

A vote on the amendments is expected next week.
