Governor Wolf held a news conference Tuesday, addressing his plan to increase funding for early childhood education. 

 

The governor’s proposed budget includes an increase of $75 million. 

 

The proposal is said to allow over 8,400 additional children to enroll in Pennsylvania pre-K counts and the Head Start Supplemental Assistance Program. 

 

The governor explained that this is something both republicans and democrats can agree on. 

 

“‘Cause I think they all really understand that this is something that we ought to invest in,” Governor Wolf said. “I think there is a lot of disagreement over what government should be doing and what it shouldn’t be doing, but I don’t think anybody disagrees with the idea that if we invest early on and protect our investment early on in a child’s education, we can make a big difference.”

 

The governor explained that the proposed budget is balanced and has no increases in sales or personal income tax.
