Governor veto affects area hospitals

Several area hospitals are among those affected by a line item veto by Governor Tom Wolf. Tyrone Regional Health Network, Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital, and Meyersdale Medical Center are among  a few dozen critical care hospitals,  expected to lose funding from the $17.5 million deletion.

Tyrone Regional CEO  Steve Gildea says the governor is putting the healthcare of many at-risk Pennsylvania’s in jeopardy. Gildea says the underserved and underinsured, and children in particular will be most affected by the move.

“Governor Wolf is putting the Healthcare of many at risk Pennsylvanians in jeopardy with his action,” Gildea says. “Tyrone Regional provides numerous services to this at risk population, all made possible through this funding. If the Governor is successful at cutting the much needed funding, he will cause harm to this at risk population,” he adds.
