A wildlife rehabilitation group in Centre County is celebrating a success story Monday.

Centre Wildlife Care released a golden eagle from rehabilitation Monday morning in Port Matilda. The bird was found on State Game Lands in Philipsburg on Thanksgiving. It had a severe bacterial infection.

Golden eagles are rare in Pennsylvania. They usually only migrate through the state.

“This is really special that we were able to rehabilitate and get this bird back into the wild,” Robyn Graboski, of Centre Wildlife Care, said. “This is the first time in 30 years that we have been able to rehabilitate and release a golden eagle, so we’re really happy about that.”

Anyone who finds an injured eagle is asked to call the State Game Commission.
