Foster families needed

Foster care is an ongoing and important need in our region.

Now one area county is celebrating those families who participate and are encouraging others to join.

There are currently 63 parents who foster children in Centre County, but there are even more children in need of a home.

“Currently, of our available foster parents to take in children, they’re mostly available for one child and mostly infants,” Robin Cain, Foster Home Specialist, said. “We need more foster homes that will take two, three, four siblings of all ages and all sexes.”

There is a lot of support available to families who foster, including mental health and foster care mentoring services.

“Opening your home to children is a great experience. You’re giving them a place to be safe and to grow and to learn,” Cain said. “No matter if you’re a foster parent for one day for a child or 18 years or 21 years, there is so much that you can do to make a difference in the life of a child.”
