A former Centre County school bus driver, accused of having sex with and sexting a 15 year old girl, waived his preliminary hearing in court Wednesday.

Twenty-five year old Matthew Dunlap faces numerous charges – including statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors. He is a former contracted school bus driver for the State College Area School District.

His attorney, Karen Muir said her client was surprised to learn he would be charged.

“He was surprised because again, he is a good citizen who met with the police, which is a lesson learned to the public, don’t meet with police without an attorney because you don’t know what will happen,” Muir said.

According to the criminal complaint, Dunlap sent and received nude photos from the victim via Snapchat. Police said the two had sex at least twice at the victim’s home over the summer, something Dunlap and the victim allegedly admitted.

“He is innocent of all of these charges until proven otherwise in the court of law. He, naturally, is very devastated, very upset that things are being said as they are said in the affidavit of probable cause and what this young woman said,” Muir said.

Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller claims Dunlap groomed his victim over the years, starting when she rode his bus in the 8th grade.

“This kind of behavior signifies a certain mindset that we find to be extremely troubling and doesn’t stop on its own,” Parks Miller said. “Our main concern is the victim in this case, that she be traumatized the least bit possible as we work our way through this system.”

Dunlap remains in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $200,000 bail. He’s scheduled for a pre-trial conference in January.
