Funeral plans are being made for astronaut John Glenn, who passed away yesterday at the age of 95.   A public memorial will be held next week in his home state of Ohio.

Glenn was a national icon and inspired many people in Central PA. That includes former astronaut Jim Pawelcyzk . Now a professor at Penn State, he had the opportunity to meet John Glenn and came away even more impressed. He said, “He came from humble beginnings he believed in that all his life. He believed in public service, but he believed in doing great things every single day and living every day to its fullest, in service to his community and service to his country.”

Glenn’s legacy can also be found in Blair County at the Armstrong Planetarium in Altoona. They have a signed lithograph of the Mercury 7 with John Glenn’s signature. Glenn was among the 7 original astronauts.
