This year is the 15th anniversary of September 11.  Many children and teens don’t remember what happened or they weren’t born yet.

To spread awareness and encourage visitation to the Flight 93 Memorial, a new educational program was launched for 4th grade students.

It includes an art activity, a tribute activity, and showing kids what the passengers on that flight accomplished by working together.

“Our students were not born at the time and it’s very difficult for them to understand this tragedy that has happened.  So this opportunity has provided us with teachable moments where we can talk to the students about some very serious events close to home” says Heather Wessel, the assistant principal for a Pittsburgh area school.

In addition students will be able to go to the Visitor’s Center to see how the passengers are honored.

There were 400 4th grade students who visited the memorial for this program in May.
