With stands full of fans, the Johnstown Tomahawks will honor Trooper Weaver and other first responders this weekend.

The 2nd annual First Responders Night will take place before Saturday’s game at the Cambria County War Memorial, with hockey players and fans holding a moment of silence before the game to honor fallen Saint Clair Township Police Officer Lloyd Reed, who died in 2015, along with Trooper Landon Weaver who died Dec. 30.

Mike Gosnell is the communications manager for the Tomahawks and said fans and other first responders will show up to pay their respects.

“The big one I think is Saturday, First Responders’ Night,” Gosnell said. “The passing of Trooper Weaver and Officer Reed, who was killed in the line of fire last year. It’s really just our way of saying thank you to people who protect us. Whatever we can do. Even just raising awareness about what they do. That’s really what Saturday’s all about.”

Gosnell added that some first responders: fire, EMS and police officers are season ticket holders and that this is the perfect opportunity to honor everyone who devotes their lives to protecting others.

The team is also hosting an undies toss Sunday, when fans will throw packages of new and unused underwear onto the ice after the Tomahawks score their first goal, with the new undergarments going to the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
