In DuBois, firefighters blame careless smoking for starting a fire at a nursing home.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the DuBois Village off S. Eighth Street.
The fire chief says a flower pot was burning against the wall and started scorching the wall and melting the siding, so they peeled off the rest of the siding on that part of the wall.
“A resident must have been out here, possibly a cigarette in a flower pot. So, we’re gonna rule it accidental, and they can do their own fire investigation into that,” says Adrian Fire Chief Steve Dunlap.
Workers say they had to evacuate dozens of residents from the building. They were allowed back inside when the fire was put out.
