The Phoenix Fire Department announced today that they will host an Open House on Thursday, August 25, 2016, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at their Fire Station located at 206 Wayne St. in Downtown Hollidaysburg.

“We want our citizens to understand and appreciate all of the services that the fire station, police and other first responders provide,” noted Tony DiBona, Fire Chief, “We are pleased that we are able to hold the Open House in conjunction with the Hollidaysburg Community Partnership Concert Series.”

A variety of activities are planned including, Child Safety Seat checks performed by the Pennsylvania State Police from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Child Identity Finger Printing courtesy of the Hollidaysburg Police and residents can sign up to have their smoke detectors inspected by fire department personnel.

Kids are invited to climb into the fire engine and take part in the fire hose challenge game. Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand for pictures and kids can learn about fire prevention and take a tour through the Kids Safety Trailer.

Hollidaysburg Ambulance will be at the fire stations and will have their vehicles open for inspection and will demonstrate a vehicle crash rescue at 6 p.m.

The firehouse kitchen will be open and serving ox roast sandwiches and French fries. Kids under 12 are welcome to enjoy free hot dogs.

There will also be an opportunity for individuals who are interested in joining the Fire Department to try on fire helmets and turnout gear and even fill out an application. “The recruitment of new volunteers is a priority at Phoenix,” stated DiBona.

Phoenix Fire Department is the host department behind the Allegheny Mountain Firefighters Initiative, an alliance focused on the recruitment and retention of volunteers for 30 fire departments throughout Central Pennsylvania
