Thousands of people came out to pay their respects Thursday, along the funeral procession route for Pennsylvania State Trooper Landon Weaver, who was killed in the line of duty Dec. 30. 

 

Pennsylvania State Trooper Jeff Petucci, a public information officer for Troop G, said it was an emotional week.

 

Petucci was apart of the funeral procession for Trooper Weaver. Over 400 state trooper vehicles were joined by other first responder vehicles.

 

Local businesses and community members are working to raise money for Trooper Weaver’s family, many saying it’s the least they can do for his sacrifice.

 

Trooper Petucci said the support is very moving.

 

“There’s a lot of mixed emotions. Obviously being a trooper and our fellow trooper was killed, it’s a heavy heart,” Petucci said. “And at the same time it was really incredible to see all the support that we had with the community lined up along the road.”

 

Elsewhere, the entire Hollidaysburg School District took part in wearing blue. 

 

The idea came from secretaries at the schools that thought to incorporate the cause into their teacher dress down day. 

 

Teachers donated money for the privilege to dress down, but the cause made it special. 

 

Even though Trooper Weaver didn’t serve in Hollidaysburg, the community felt connected to him and wanted to show appreciation for his sacrifice. 

 

“It’s just something, a very, very, very small way for the folks in Hollidaysburg to show that we care,” Carol Clapper, a secretary in the district said. “To thank Trooper Weaver for his very short time of service, whether he was stationed here in Hollidaysburg or not.”

 

Teachers and students donated more than the usual three dollars for dress down day, with the junior high alone raising over $500 dollars.
