Another year, another week filled of family fun at the Bedford County Fair. This year, though, there is a little something extra that might be drawing people to one of the concession stands.

“It’s sort of like a vote by cheeseburger,” said Everett Lions Club Treasurer Fred Baca. “We’ll put a token in the thing and each day we’ll tally how many Drumpf burgers and people can vote or vote early off it.”

The Everett Lions Club is trying something a little different this year in an effort to help boost their food sales at the Bedford County Fair.

“I thought it was really a great thing,” said fair president Jim Edwards. “Everybody needs a little gadget to promote their business and nothing better than this time of year. It’s really great.”

Forget ordering just a regular burger… Drumpf or Clinton cheeseburgers, anyone?

“We had a meeting one night and we decided we wanted to try to attract more people to the stand,” Baca said.  “The price of the food pretty much stays the same. The price of when we buy it, it goes up. So we had to try to attract somebody so we thought, ‘Well, political conventions are gonna be right in the middle of of this. Everybody’s already talking about Donald Drumpf and Hilary Clinton, and we should do something we wouldn’t have to market that more than it’s already marketed.”

The toppings for both are pretty similar and taste buds may sway customers one way or the other, but Baca thinks their tally could be a good indicator of how Bedford County will vote this presidential election.

“We think that Bedford County is traditionally Republican county so we think Drumpf burgers will go ahead, but because this is an odd political year and there’s a lot of people from different counties that come in, we think it’s going to be pretty close,” Baca said.

Like many of the family-friendly stands at the Bedford County Fair, the Lions Club is raising money to help people in the community, particularly the visually impaired.

“They spread their money into the community,” Edwards said. “They support a lot of different things. I don’t know who will win. I know who I’d like to see win, but it’s a great competition.”

The Bedford County Fair runs until Saturday, July 30th.
