There are about 50,000 DUI arrests in Pennsylvania each year… 12,000 of those are repeat offenders.

A recent study by WalletHub compared all 50 states, and Pennsylvania ranks at the bottom. The criticism is that weak punishment allows for repeat offenders… but now, a bill that would strengthen DUI laws in Pennsylvania is moving forward.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted Monday to require most first time DUI offenders to install an ignition interlock device in their vehicles.

Senate Bill 290 will now head back to the State Senate for final consideration, where it’s expected to pass.

Governor Tom Wolf is also expected to sign the legislation when it reaches his desk.

The law is already mandatory in most states.
