Last week, Showers Field played host to the Pennsylvania Senior Little League tournament.  The ball park was renovated a couple of years ago and is a huge asset to the area.  It is also place where some great baseball players got their start.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the DuBois VFW Teener League team that won a state championship. Among those players were Ron Seary and Joe Vesnesky.  The men still speak to each other once a week often remembering their glory days on the diamond.

You may have heard Joe Vesnesky on the radio.  For years he did radio play-by-play for St. Francis basketball and every Sunday he still hosts a polka show on AM radio in Philipsburg.

He is now in his 80’s but he seems to remember every game from 1951, including the game the winning run his friend Ron Seary scored to beat Punxsutawney in a playoff game.
