Twenty-six suspected drug dealers have been arrested in our area after a lengthy investigation through the Attorney General’s office.

Police said the year long investigation took street to mid-level dealers off the streets who were distributing heroin, cocaine, bath salts and prescription drugs in Blair County.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s office announced criminal charges against the 26 individuals Friday.

Investigators from the Blair County Drug Task Force, the Altoona Police Department, and agents from the A.G.’s Bureau of Narcotics teamed up to catch these suspects.

Investigators went undercover and made a series of controlled purchases in and around the Altoona area with the help of confidential informants.

“We’re part of a real big problem nationwide and we’re trying to deal with it here as law enforcement officers,” said Anthony Sassano from the Attorney General’s Office.  “I don’t even know what it would be like — I can’t imagine what it would be like if we didn’t do what we are doing.”

The investigation is still ongoing and police expert more arrests to be made.
